Remember when the only individuals who cared about the ecosystem were tree huggers along with hippies? That has fully changed now, since we all appear to have an awareness that the planet is having difficulties, and we all have a part to play in fixing it. The experts are agreed that we cannot transform things for the better without everyone’s active contribution. These kinds of changes need to start occurring, and each individual family needs to become more environmentally friendly. The kitchen area is a good place to start saving energy by going much more green.
A lot of electricity is wasted when fridges and freezers, both heavy users of electricity anyway, are not operating efficiently. If you’re in the market for a new one, the good news is that compared with styles from 10 or more years ago, they use about 60% less electrical power. The right temperature settings for your fridge and freezer, whereby you’ll be saving electricity and optimising the preservation of food, is 37F as well as 0F. Another way to save electricity is to keep the condenser clean, for the reason that the motor won’t have to go as often.
As you can see, there are plenty of little items that you can do to save energy, and save money, in the kitchen alone. It is pretty uncomplicated to live green, all things considered. Largely, all it will take is a bit of common sense.

The ingredients needed to make Chocolate Cookies:
- Use 8 oz Butter
- Get 4 oz Castor Sugar
- Get 12 oz Flour
- Use 2 oz Cocoa Powder
- Get Optional Filling or Topping
- You need 3 Tubes of Smarties
- You need Chocolate Chips
- You need Melted chocolate to decorate
Steps to make Chocolate Cookies:
- Preheat your oven to 160 (gas mk 5)
- Add the sugar, butter and vanilla to a blender and start to beat hard until the butter starts turning white, then add the Cocoa powder and mix well.
- Put the Smarties in a bag and using a rolling pin give them a bit of a bash up, leaving some whole.
- Add half the Smarties into the flour followed by as many Chocolate chips as you like and mix well (this stops them from sinking to the bottom) then add the flour to the sugar and butter and mix in well.
- Using Greaseproof or Parchment paper cover the bottom of the tray. Ok I’m using a Pizza tray but it works.
- Then add the blended mixture to the tray and using a rolling pin level it down evenly.
- Prick evenly with a fork then add the remaining Smarties on the top and gently press in a touch.
- Pop your cookie mix into the oven for about 15 minutes, or firm to press.
- Remove from the oven once cooked and using a pizza cutter immediately score the cookie into bite sized biscuits.
- Optional but at this stage I then Spun melted chocolate over the top and chocolate strands for my son’s benefit.
- Allow to cool then store in an airtight container, as ever, enjoy.
