Changing light bulbs is actually as good a place to begin with as any. Naturally you shouldn’t confine this to just the cooking area. Compact fluorescent lightbulbs are generally energy-savers, and you will need to use them instead of incandescent lights. Although costing a little more in the beginning, these types of bulbs last as long as ten of the traditional type as well as using a lot less energy. Using these kinds of longer-lasting lightbulbs has the actual benefit that many fewer lightbulbs make it into landfills. It goes further than simply exchanging the lights, though; turning off lights that aren’t needed is another good thing to do. The family spends a lot of time in the cooking area, and how often does the kitchen light go on in the morning and is left on all day long.
